These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your access to and use of BioPrintHub, a platform operated by Black Drop Biomedical, Lda ("Black Drop Biomedical", "we", "us", or "our"), a company incorporated under Portuguese law. BioPrintHub is an online repository for 3D bioprinting models, protocols, and associated scientific materials.

By registering for an account, accessing, or using the Platform, you confirm that you are at least 18 years old (or the age of legal majority in your jurisdiction), have read and understood these Terms, and agree to be legally bound by them. If you are accessing the Platform on behalf of an organisation, you represent that you have the authority to bind that organisation to these Terms.

These Terms are governed by Portuguese law and, where applicable, European Union law.

Its use is directed for professionals working in the area of 3D bioprinting.

3. Eligibility and Account Registration

3.1 Eligibility

The Platform is intended for researchers and professionals engaged in or interested in 3D bioprinting and related fields. Use of the Platform for purely commercial purposes unrelated to scientific research may be subject to separate commercial licensing terms.

You must be at least 18 years of age to create an account. We reserve the right to refuse access to any user at our sole discretion.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that contain false or misleading information, or that are used in violation of these Terms.

3.3 Institutional and Team Accounts

Where an account is registered on behalf of a research institution, university, or company, the individual creating the account warrants that they have the authority to do so and that the organisation accepts these Terms.

4. Use of the Platform

5. User Content

5.1 Your Responsibility

You are solely responsible for any Content you upload, publish, or share on the Platform. By submitting User Content, you represent and warrant that:

  • You own or have the necessary rights, licences, and permissions to submit the Content and to grant the licences described in these Terms
  • The Content does not infringe any third-party Intellectual Property Rights, privacy rights, or other legal rights
  • The Content does not contain confidential information belonging to a third party (e.g., an employer or funding body) that you are not authorised to disclose
  • The Content is accurate to the best of your knowledge and does not contain fabricated or fraudulent scientific data
  • The Content complies with applicable biosafety, ethical, and regulatory requirements in your jurisdiction

5.2 Licence Granted to Black Drop Biomedical

By uploading User Content to the Platform, you grant Black Drop Biomedical a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, display, distribute, and make available your Content solely for the purposes of operating and improving the Platform and delivering the Services. This licence does not affect your ownership of the Content.

Where you designate Content as publicly available, you grant other users the right to view and download that Content in accordance with the licence terms you select at the time of upload (see Section 5.3).

5.3 Content Licensing Options

When uploading Content, you may specify an open licence (such as Creative Commons) or a custom licence. If no licence is specified, the default licence is Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0), which permits others to share and adapt the Content with attribution. You are responsible for selecting the appropriate licence for your Content.

You must not upload Content under a licence that conflicts with prior obligations you have to third parties (e.g., funding agencies, journals, employers).

5.4 Content Moderation

We reserve the right — but not the obligation — to review, remove, or restrict access to User Content that we determine, in our sole discretion, violates these Terms, applicable law, or the scientific integrity standards of the Platform. We will endeavour to notify you of significant content removal actions where legally permissible.

6. Intellectual Property

6.1 BioPrintHub Content

All content, design, software, graphics, text, and other materials created or owned by Black Drop Biomedical and made available through the Platform are the exclusive property of Black Drop Biomedical or its licensors and are protected by applicable Intellectual Property Rights. Nothing in these Terms transfers any ownership of BioPrintHub Content to you.

6.2 Your Content

You retain full ownership of all Intellectual Property Rights in the User Content you submit to the Platform.

6.3 Trademarks

The name "BioPrintHub", the BioPrintHub logo, and all associated marks and trade names are trademarks or registered trademarks of Black Drop Biomedical. You may not use these marks without our prior written consent.

6.4 Infringement Claims

If you believe that Content on the Platform infringes your Intellectual Property Rights, please contact us at blackdropbiomedical@gmail.com with a description of the allegedly infringing Content, your contact information, and a statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use is unauthorised. We will investigate and respond in accordance with applicable law.

7. Third-Party Services

The Platform may integrate with or link to third-party websites, databases, repositories, or services (such as ORCID, Zenodo, or institutional repositories). These third-party services are governed by their own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or content of third-party services, and a link or integration does not imply our endorsement.

Any transactions or interactions you conduct with third parties through the Platform are solely between you and that third party. We shall have no liability for any loss or damage arising from your use of third-party services.

8. Suspension and Termination

8.1. You may close your account at any time through your account settings or by contacting us at support@bioprinthub.com. Upon closure, your account data will be handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

8.2. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account or access to the Platform, with or without notice, if we reasonably believe that you have breached these Terms, engaged in fraudulent or illegal activity, or posed a risk to other users, the Platform, or third parties.

Upon termination, your licence to use the Platform ceases immediately. Sections of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination (including Sections 5, 6, 10, 11, and 14) will continue to apply.

8.3. Upon account termination, publicly shared Content may remain on the Platform unless you request its removal prior to termination. We will endeavour to accommodate reasonable removal requests but are not obligated to remove Content that has already been accessed or cited by other users.

9. Changes to the Platform and Terms

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Platform at any time, with or without notice. We will not be liable to you for any such modification, suspension, or discontinuation.

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated Terms on the Platform and, where required, by email or Platform notification. Your continued use of the Platform after the effective date of the revised Terms constitutes your acceptance. If you do not agree with the revised Terms, you must stop using the Platform.

10. Scientific Integrity

  • Upload only original Content that reflects accurate, honest scientific work
  • Attribute original sources appropriately and not plagiarise or misrepresent the work of others
  • Not upload Content derived from research that violates ethical approval requirements, biosafety regulations, or applicable law
  • Not manipulate, fabricate, or falsify scientific data, images, or results
  • Disclose any conflicts of interest relevant to the Content you share

We reserve the right to remove Content and take appropriate action against users where we have reason to believe scientific misconduct has occurred, including reporting to relevant institutions or authorities where required by law.

11. Dispute Resolution

In the event of a dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms or your use of the Platform, we encourage you to first contact us at legal@bioprinthub.com to seek an informal resolution.

If the dispute cannot be resolved informally, it shall be submitted to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Portuguese courts, specifically the courts of the district where Black Drop Biomedical is registered, unless mandatory consumer protection law requires otherwise.

Consumers in Portugal have the right to use alternative dispute resolution (ADR) entities. A list of accredited entities is available at the Portuguese Consumer Portal: https://www.consumidor.gov.pt.
